چکیده

S 1 × S 2 as a bag membrane and its Einstein-Weyl geometry Abstract In the hybrid skyrmion in which an Anti-de Sitter bag is imbedded into the skyrmion configuration a S 1 × S 2 membrane is lying on the compactified spatial infinity of the bag [H. Rosu, Nuovo Cimento B 108, 313 (1993)]. The connection between the quark degrees of freedom and the mesonic ones is made through the membrane, in a way that should still be clarified from the standpoint of general relativity and topology. The S 1 × S 2 membrane as a 3-dimensional manifold is at the same time a Weyl-Einstein space. We make here an excursion through the mathematical body of knowledge in the differential geometry and topology of these spaces which is expected to be useful for hadronic membranes.

Conformal mappings preserving the Einstein tensor of Weyl manifolds

In this paper, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for a conformal mapping between two Weyl manifolds to preserve Einstein tensor. Then we prove that some basic curvature tensors of $W_n$ are preserved by such a conformal mapping if and only if the covector field of the mapping is locally a gradient. Also, we obtained the relation between the scalar curvatures of the Weyl manifolds r...

2 4 A ug 2 00 6 The geometry of conformally Einstein metrics with degenerate Weyl tensor

The problem of characterizing conformally Einstein manifolds by tensorial conditions has been tackled recently in papers by M. Listing, and in work by A. R. Gover and P. Nurowski. Their results apply to metrics satisfying a " non-degeneracy " condition on the Weyl tensor W. We investigate the geometry of the foliations arising on conformally Einstein spaces (with Riemannian signature) where thi...

Recurrent metrics in the geometry of second order differential equations

Given a pair (semispray $S$, metric $g$) on a tangent bundle, the family of nonlinear connections $N$ such that $g$ is recurrent with respect to $(S, N)$ with a fixed recurrent factor is determined by using the Obata tensors. In particular, we obtain a characterization for a pair $(N, g)$ to be recurrent as well as for the triple $(S, stackrel{c}{N}, g)$ where $stackrel{c}{N}$ is the canonical ...

We consider S 2 bundles P and P ′ of totally null planes of maximal dimension over a 4-dimensional manifold equipped with a Weyl or Riemannian geometry. The fibre product PP ′ of P and P ′ is found to be appropriate for the encoding of both the selfdual and the Einstein-Weyl equations for the 4-metric. This encoding is realized in terms of the properties of certain well defined geometrical obje...

We present some obvious physical requirements on gravitational avatars of non-linear elec-trodynamics and illustrate them with explicit determinantal Born–Infeld–Einstein models. A related procedure, using compensating Weyl scalars, permits us to formulate conformally invariant versions of these systems as well. Born–Infeld (BI) electrodynamics [1] has earned its longevity through its elegant, ...
